Damwatch Engineering Ltd is a privately-owned specialist consultancy of world-class passionate dam engineers based in Wellington New Zealand, voted the coolest little capital city in the world. We have an exciting international portfolio of work in dam engineering and applying dam safety practices to new and existing dams. Damwatch is looking for a Dams Engineer with 10 years' experience in the development and implementation of dams and hydraulic structures. The successful candidate needs to have a strongly developed dam safety capability. This is a leadership role of a small team of similarly skilled engineers.

What we are looking for from you:

  • Experience in irrigation or hydro scheme development including investigation and design.
  • Experience in the engineering of hydraulic structures, spillways, outlets and power stations.
  • Demonstrated capability for analysis, problem solving and innovation.
  • A track record of delivering practical, buildable solutions.
  • Real understanding of dam safety and risk management principles.
  • Leadership skills to lead technical teams and represent Damwatch to clients.
  • Minimum of 10 years of dam engineering experience.
  • An ability to see the big picture.
  • Enthusiasm to work with other experts and mentor up-and-oming engineers in a team environment.
  • Capability to address client issues with pragmatic and practical solutions in New Zealand and internationally.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven project management and leadership skills.

Damwatch has an opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Instrumentation Specialist to work on developing dam safety instrumentation solutions for our clients throughout New Zealand and overseas. You will get involved or lead project phases from concept and detailed design to implementation, maintenance and refurbishment.

Damwatch is a specialised engineering consultancy - we focus on dams and their associated structures.

The role

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to deliver quality results and be prepared to work both on site and in the office. As the Instrumentation Specialist you will have an appreciation of the relationship between instrumentation design and dam safety monitoring, you will be involved and/or lead the investigation, design, procurement, configuration, installation, commissioning, maintenance, diagnostics, decommissioning and remediation of:

  • A range of geotechnical instruments e.g. piezometers, inclinometers, flow and temperature sensors etc.
  • Deformation instruments .
  • Data capture, communication and storage systems, networks and protocols.

What you bring:

  • Hold tertiary level education preferably in science or geophysics, with a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience.
  • Ideally you will be able to demonstrate some experience on dam and/or large civil works projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the practical application of data capture, processing and analysis tools and systems.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and client liaison skills.
  • Experienced leadership and management of projects and service delivery.
