Damwatch has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Project Geotechnical Engineer with career advancement potential. You will have opportunities to exercise and expand your skills in geotechnical engineering on dam projects for hydropower, water supply, mining, irrigation and flood control. You will work alongside and be mentored by Damwatch's highly capable and skilled geotechnical senior staff. The ideal candidate will have a degree (B.S. minimum) in engineering with a geotechnical/geological/civil emphasis and 3 to 8 years' experience as a Geotechnical Engineer. Experience with dams is not a prerequisite.

The Role

The Project Geotechnical Engineer will work alongside and support a multi-disciplinary group of engineers working on unique and challenging dam projects. This role has expansive opportunities to develop your skills and expertise. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starting individual who is keen to learn and expand their geotechnical capabilities in dam engineering.

The Project Geotechnical Engineer will perform geotechnical, seepage, and seismic analyses for engineering assessments, feasibility studies, design and construction of dams and other hydraulic structures. Fieldwork including investigations and construction supervision is also included in this position. This role requires the ability to perform a breadth of geotechnical engineering problem solving and to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.

The Job Requisites

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Be a New Zealand Citizen, a New Zealand Permanent Resident or qualify for a New Zealand Work Visa leading to New Zealand permanent residency.
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering with a geotechnical, geological or civil emphasis.
  • 3 to 8 years' experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Effective inter-personal and presentation skills.
  • Effective working independently and team collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrable engineering analytical and interpretative skills.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing and analysing geological and geotechnical information.
  • Experience supervising geological and geotechnical investigations including ground conditions' logging and in-situ testing.
  • Effective general computer skills.
  • Geotechnical specific computing skills including analytical and numerical methods for slope stability, seepage, earth/seismic deformations and geo-database. CAD skills are additionally desirable.

Damwatch has an opportunity for a mid-level experienced Civil / Structural Drafter for a full time role based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Damwatch is a specialised engineering consultancy - we focus on dams and their associated structures, providing strategic engineering and dam safety services for maintaining and developing dam infrastructure in New Zealand and overseas. Due to increased work load we are seeking an experienced CAD drafter to support these projects.

The role:

  • Help support a team of Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical engineers.
  • Help support the CAD workflows that produce and control engineering drawings within the organisation.
  • Play a key role in developing 3D modelling capabilities for Civil and Structural infrastructure.

Ideally you will have:

  • 3 to 10 years' experience in civil engineering projects particularly related to dams, canals, bridges and heavy engineering works.
  • Strong proficiency in using AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in preparation of construction drawings and sketches.
  • Experience in 2D and 3D CAD Design including AutoCAD 3D Solids and Revit.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment.
  • Interest in developing your skills in 3D visualisation, GIS and BIM enabled packages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reconised technical qualification in civil engineering / drafting or equivalent.
